It’s Face Tip Friday! Do you know what is in your skincare? Here are 7 toxic ingredients to avoid:
- Oxybenzone– Found in many sunscreens. Powerful hormone disruptor and has been proven to cause cancer.
- Parabens– Methal, propyl,butyl,ethyl. They help to preserve the shelf life of products like facial cleansers, night creams, body wash, and foundation makeup..to name a few. They mimic estrogen in the body disrupting our delicate hormonal balance and have been proven to lead to breast cancer and fertility issues.
- Fragrance– Companies use them to market products but don’t have to disclose what’s in them. Usually they have tons of chemicals which cause allergies, hormone disruptions, and birth defects.
- Lead– Found in a lot of makeup products. Can cause serious behavioral and learning problems. The sad thing is that it’s been removed from gasoline and paint but not our skincare products.
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate– Found in a lot of body washes and shampoo. This chemical is added to products to lather or form bubbles but can cause skin irritations and allergies.
- Formaldehyde– Used to preserve a product and a powerful carcinogen.
- Phthalates– Chemicals used to soften and increase the flexibility of plastics used in cosmetics. This helps products stick to the skin. Very dangerous to children because they are endocrine disruptors and can cause birth defects. Found in deodorant, lotion, perfume, and hairspray
